Pointing Urshult towards a digital future

Back in 2008 I was an Events Assistant at the National Digital Inclusion Conference in London. As part of preparing for the event I researched digital inclusion in England; the importance of knowing how to use the internet for booking things, buying things and important information.  The idea behind the digital inclusion movement in the UK is that, if you are not involved in the online world, then you are missing out.

The world has moved on a lot since 2008 and being digitally literate has become even more important, especially when running your own business!

It has been great to increase my knowledge of digital marketing tools, such as social media, through the Destination Åsnen project. I already used Facebook a lot but the Instagram workshop was great at de-mystifying this more photo-based tool. I love playing around with filters, shadows and light. I think Sjön Åsnen is so incredibly beautiful and photogenic and IG is a great tool for communicating this beauty to customers.

I have really enjoyed meeting other businesses in the Åsnen area and hearing what folk are up to. It feels good to meet in person and know that it is not just me plugging away in my little corner of Åsnen. There are lots of us living and working on the banks of this great lake!

The summer season was incredibly busy here in Urshult Hotell and began as early as April! Now things are a bit quieter I am looking forward to working a bit less on making beds and a bit more on our digital profile. Future plans include an updated multi-lingual website, an online booking system and more IG/FB posts.

Next Friday’s workshop is here at Urshult Hotell and I am lookng foreard to seeing you all again and hearing about how your summer has been!
